The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) is an internationally recognised non-profit NGO advancing the responsible use of emerging digital technologies to support climate action and policy implementation.

The Blockchain & Climate Institute occupies a unique position in the global climate ecosystem as one of the few institutions that combines deep technical expertise artificial intelligence and blockchain with internationally recognised authority in climate policy, standards, and law.

BCI serves as the critical bridge between innovation and governance, addressing the gap where technology developers face policy-alignment gaps and policymakers face constraints in technical implementation.

With a global network across more than 30 countries and active engagement with UNFCCC bodies, ISO technical committees, and national governments, BCI ensures emerging digital technologies are deployable, finance ready, and aligned with international climate objectives.

Founded during UNFCCC COP23 in 2017, BCI operates globally at the intersection of climate governance, digital infrastructure, and international standards. The Institute works closely with governments, international organisations, and technical bodies to support the design and deployment of scalable, standards-aligned digital climate solutions.

Through sustained engagement with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), UN agencies, intergovernmental organisations, and partner governments, BCI contributes to global efforts to digitalise climate action. This includes supporting the development of international standards, advising on policy and legal frameworks, and enabling the deployment of verifiable digital infrastructure across national and regional contexts.

BCI empowers policymakers, institutions, and practitioners to translate emerging technologies into measurable, accountable climate outcomes.
